Industry collaboration through the GB Dairy Calf Strategy, which is led by the NFU along with AHDB, has seen particular areas of focus developed across industry, from TB to genetics and increased sexed semen usage.

Work focusing on our TB ambitions, specifically increasing the number of bio-secure routes for TB-affected herds has been developing at pace, as part of the drive towards eliminating the routine euthanasia of calves on farm by 2023 and ensuring all calves are reared with care.

The challenges posed by bTB cause huge concern for farmers while rearing calves on farm. If necessary, moving animals to TB licensed units, such as Approved Finishing Units or Isolation Units is an essential outlet to ensure the welfare of the animals.
