Following April's NFU Council meeting, the Communications and Engagement Team was tasked with developing a system to support members to easily write individualised letters.
We have an easy-to-use form on our NFU app, which allows you to add your name, address and email and then, using the voice to text feature, start dictating your thoughts about what the proposed inheritance tax changes mean for you, your families and your farms.
From your mobile phone, select this link – National Farmers’ Union – MP letter writing tool, or download our NFU app and search for ‘Letter writing tool’.
When dictating your thoughts, consider talking about:
- What you farm, and how long you've farmed for and who works on your farm
- Why you're concerned about the inheritance tax changes
- If you've taken any financial advice about what your liability may be under the proposed changes, or if you've made any businesses decisions as a result of the changes
- What you would like your MP to do when they receive your letter, for example, a meeting with yourself, a reply, or talking to government on your behalf.
The NFU will turn your words into a letter on your behalf. Members have the option to allow their information to be put into external AI tools to help generate this letter faster.
All transcribed data is securely received, and members have the option to opt in or out of the use of AI as part of this process.
Contact your county adviser
If you are out and about at county shows, make your way to the NFU stand this summer where we'll be on hand to record and upload your story in person, or you can get in touch with your county adviser, who will also be on-hand to help.
Look out for your August issue of British Farmer & Grower where you'll also find a Stop the Family Farm Tax postcard which you can write your story in and post to your MP. Find your MP's constituency office address at: GOV.UK | Contact your MP.
