At this year’s Devon County Show, show president Tom Hammett launched a new travel scholarship sponsored by the Devon Farmer's Benevolent Fund and run in conjunction with Devon Young Farmers.

“We have been thinking for some time about what we should do with this money and decided to help give a young person the chance to live their dream," said Mr Hammett.

Broaden your knowledge

The scheme is open to members of the Devon farming community aged 21 to 28 who are interested in travelling to broaden their knowledge, develop a deeper understanding of policies and practices in a foreign country and bring this back to Devon.

  • Up to £2,500 will be awarded per scholarship.

  • Applicants will be expected to arrange their own flights, visas, home stay, food and experiences and be able to pay for expenses. Upon their return, they will write a report about the outcomes of the trip and present this to the board, along with an article for DFYFC newsletter and social media.

  • They must work within the farming, food, horticulture, rural and associated industries or are in a position to influence these industries. The trip must take place within 18 months of being awarded the scholarship.

  • Scholarships are not awarded to anyone in full-time education or to further research projects.

The closing date is 31 October 2022.
