NFU has submitted views on Ely area capacity enhancement (EACE) programme.

The EACE programme aims to allow more trains to run through Ely.

Remodelling the track

Network Rail launched a consultation that presented the options that they are considering for remodelling the track at Ely North Junction, Queen Adelaide level crossing options, and options for upgrading or closing other level crossings between Ely and Peterborough, between Ely and King’s Lynn, and between Ely and Cambridge.

The consultation closed on 28 November.

Impact on agricultural businesses

The NFU submitted a response to the consultation which highlighted issues including the impact on agricultural businesses, closure of level crossings, consultation with landowners, the amount of land to be taken to deliver the scheme, impact on the local road network and the commitment for funding.

You can read the response in full here.

Further consultation

Network Rail are proposing to launch a further consultation for the section of the scheme between Ely and Ipswich which is expected in spring 2022.
