The group also had some social media training and had a go at making some videos that promoted British farming and their businesses.
Willow Green is one of Morrisons’ largest distribution centres. It covers 78 acres along a mile-long site and employs 1,100 people, who deliver around 2.1m packages of goods every week to 75 stores across the South West. The group heard from site manager Craig Knowles who explained some of the challenges involved in running a fast-moving delivery business, before being shown around the enormous warehouses by regional logistics manager Darren Coker.
Willow Green has become a well-known landmark for travellers along the M5 so delegates were interested to hear more about it. They also heard about the Myton Food Group, Morrisons’ manufacturing business, which through its subsidiary Woodhead Bros deals with 2,000 livestock farmers across the country.
The Morrisons visit was part of an 18-month programme designed to bring like-minded members from across the region together for a variety of events, training, networking and workshop sessions to help develop leadership, management and advocacy skills.
Future events will include a visit to the NFU’s Westminster office and the NFU Conference.
