In this week’s vlog, NFU President Tom Bradshaw thanks everyone who has been in touch with their MP, along with those backbench MPs who are standing up for farmers and growers across the UK, to get us to the position we are now in with our Stop the Family Farm Tax campaign.
Tom discusses his meeting with Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury Dan Tomlinson, where Tom conveyed concerns over the impact of the anti-forestalling clause on the elderly and vulnerable.
The President also details his discussions this week with Farming Minister Dame Angela Eagle on SPS (Sanitary and Phytosanitary) arrangements and the re-alignment with the EU, along with SFI and bTB policy.
Meanwhile, NFU Combinable Crops Board Chair Jamie Burrows reports from Copa-Cogeca in Brussels, where he tells us more about the discussions he is having around the UK and EU's negotiations on a Common SPS Area.
Jamie also urges members to respond to Defra's fairness in the Combinable Crops Supply Chain review – a once-in-a-generation opportunity to convince Defra that it needs to legislate to ensure the supply chain operates fairly and transparently.
Keep up to date with all NFU work with the weekly look ahead. Have a look at where your board members and policy staff will be this coming week.
