NFU lobbies in Europe on fair supply chains

NFU President Meurig Raymond

At a reception hosted jointly by the NFU, the Food and Drink Federation and the British Retail Consortium entitled ‘Delivering Sustainable Supply Chains’, Meurig focussed on the need for long-term thinking in building supply chains.

Meurig highlighted the good work already going on in the UK on supply chain contracts but pressed the need for Europe to focus on the role of the farmer in the chain.

Several of the UK’s MEPs attended the event which also heard from the Director General of the Food and Drink Federation, Melanie Leech, and from Helen Dickinson, Director General of the British Retail Consortium.

The event was hosted by South-West MEP Julie Girling, the Conservative Party’s Environment spokesperson in the European Parliament.
