At a crucial time in history for the NFU and the agricultural industry as a whole, Alistair, of Muncaster Home Farm in Ravenglass, brings considerable experience and knowledge to the role.

Mr Mackintosh said: “Our NFU region is performing extremely well thanks to the hard work and many successes of our retiring chairman Thomas Binns, Regional Director David Hall and the entire regional team. What has been achieved in the last two years should be acknowledged and celebrated. However there is a lot more to do and I’m keen to help consolidate on that good work. We as a team need to find new ways to improve our regional democracy and to engage better with our members - especially the younger ones. I have a good working relationship with many of our group secretaries and I’m keen to take this further.”

Currently NFU Council Delegate for Cumbria, other positions Alistair has held within the NFU include national NFU Livestock Board Chairman and NFU Cumbria County Chairman. Other roles outside of NFU include being the current Chairman of the Red Tractor beef and lamb board.
