For the other catchments: Isle of Axeholme, River Lugg and Norfolk Rivers, the consultations intend to take place later on in 2018. The NFU will let members know predicted timelines when we have more information.

The consultation process:

The consultation will last four weeks from 15th January to 12th February. The consultation will:

  • Outline which section(s) are proposed to be demained
  • Explain how these section(s) are currently managed and funded
  • Provides details and future management and funding if de-maining went ahead.

Pre-consultation material is available now from here to enable partners to view proposals before the consultation window opens.

The NFU is in support of plans to demain sections of main river, where there is local support, and an appropriate body to continue previous maintenance. Members are advised to respond to the consultation, even if they have attended one of the drop in sessions, or shared their views to others about the proposals previously.

If there are no or minor objections to the consultation, the intention is for handover to occur in July 2018. For catchments with objections, handover is hoped to take place by November 2018.
