The tool provides four categories of the current likelihood of flooding- very low, low, medium and high. It also provides information on the likely severity of the impacts.

Flood risk levels: Things you should do...

  • Very low risk - flooding is very unlikely- be aware of local weather conditions;
  • Low risk - flooding is possible- check for flood warnings in your area;
  • Medium Risk - flooding is expected- check for flood warnings and monitor local weather conditions;
  • High Risk- there is a significant risk to life- stay alert and act upon advice from emergency services- check flood warnings and avoid all non-essential travel.

It is also possible to sign up for flood warnings. The service is free and you can get warnings by phone, email or text message. The five day flood forecasting tool is one of many links which the NFU has put together as part of the NFU’s Adverse Weather, Water and Flooding Toolbox.

The tool is a welcomed development as we move into the upcoming winter. More detailed information can be found at county level on the current risks of flooding.

The five day forecasting tool can be accessed here. Any feedback on the tool can be supplied directly to the Environment Agency, or you can call the NFU’s CallFirst: 0370 845 8458.
