Before demaining can occur, an informal and formal round of consultation has to take place. Informal consultations on the proposals are expected to begin in October 2017, with a round of formal consultation taking place in November 2017. The NFU recommends for all interested parties to make a response, so that levels of local support for the plans can be understood.
The NFU continues to lobby to ensure that these pilots are used to see if demaining can occur in other parts of the country where there is local support to do so.
