The Met Office provides longer-term weather outlooks - for one month and for three months - on its website.

  • Medium range (6 - 15 days) provides a broad description of the weather likely to be affecting the UK, including significant changes in the type of weather. It also provides a risk assessment of severe weather, such as heavy rainfall, severe gales or an extended period of high or low temperatures.
  • Extended-range (10 - 30 days) covers the end of the 6-15 day text forecast and the whole of the 16-30 day text forecast. The 16-30 day text outlook (which is updated on a daily basis) provides an indication of how the weather might change, or be different from normal, (i.e. warmer, colder, wetter, drier) across the whole UK. Met Office meteorologists consider output from a range of weather models when writing these forecasts.

The three-monthly outlook is prepared for the UK's contingency planners. It aims to provide some limited guidance on possible change from what is typical for UK weather. So it highlights possible areas to watch and gives a broad indication to guide long lead time supply chain e.g. grit stock but it should not be used to inform immediate action. So three-monthly temperature and rainfall outlooks are available at the bottom of this page.
