The government has launched a wide-ranging review of business rates.
They have said that they wish to consider how the system could be improved to ensure that it is sustainable, fairly targeted and sufficiently flexible to respond to changing patterns of property usage and conditions in the wider economy.
An initial discussion paper has been launched seeking comments by 12 June 2015. This will then inform the next stage, which is expected to report findings in Budget 2016.
The agricultural use of land and buildings is exempt from business rates, but many farmers who have diversified pay business rates.
We would like to hear from members about any concerns they have, their experiences of the current system, if they believe it could be improved, and if so how.
