Blog: The referendum and tenants - update

The Tenant Forum has been asked to comment and feed in suggestions and information in order to ensure that tenants are afforded as much protection and support as possible since they do not necessarily have the same freedoms to diversify or change their farming type as owner occupiers.

It is important that tenanted land occupation remains in existence on a profitable basis and that the market does not dry up for existing businesses or new entrants especially in the immediate aftermath of the referendum.

Chair of the Tenant Forum, Chris Cardell, has also met with George Eustice to express his concerns regarding the future of tenancies and to highlight the work of the Tenant Forum in relation to maintaining flexibility within Farm Business Tenancies.

He also indicated that it may be an opportunistic time to have further meetings to address a number of tenant farming issues including the sale of county farms, and the length of FBTs.
