New or improved store?

SSAFO Regulations Amended

Farmers who are building a new store or improving/enlarging an existing store now need to notify the Environment Agency earlier in the process.

The new rules mean that any silo, slurry or fuel oil storage system where construction commences on or after 15th June 2013 must be notified at least 14 days before starting the work.  The EA will then be able to inspect the planned store or modifications to ensure they comply with the rules.

In the past, you only required to notify the EA in advance of using the store.  This change means that farmers will be able to ensure that their stores are fit-for-purpose and meet the requirements at a much earlier stage in the process, avoiding costly mistakes.

Information on SSAFO Regulations and notifications can be found on the EA website.
