SNP seeks pledge on GM crops opt-out after Brexit

Ewing said the opt-out was “extremely important” for Scotland’s food and drink industry. He also expressed concern about the emphasis placed by Gove on the importance of science being at the root of environmental policy, as opposed to evidence, stating: “Science is indeed an important driver of innovation in delivering agricultural and environmental outcomes, and the Scottish Government is committed to scientific research in Scotland. However, there are many types of evidence, of which science is one, that are important to consider in any policy development, for example socio-economic evidence.”

Ewing also insisted that labelling of GM food and feed products should not be weakened after Brexit so that consumers can exercise choice. Hmm…
