Now in its sixteenth year, Great British Beef Week celebrates all the great characteristics of British beef, from its delicious taste to all the excellent work that beef farmers do to produce it to high animal welfare and environmental standards.
Organised by Ladies in Beef and AHDB, the week shines a spotlight on a staple of British food, with beef enjoyed by families across Britain all year round.
Launching on St George’s Day (23 April 2026), this year’s campaign will shine a light on the vital role of farm shops and local butchers in bringing naturally delicious British beef to tables up and down the country.
The week also highlights the vital, wider role that beef farmers play in protecting our natural environment – for example, British farming provides 19,100 hectares of wildflowers for pollinators.
“Livestock farmers across the country produce sustainable British beef to some of the highest welfare and environmental standards in the world.”

How to get involved
The NFU will be supporting the campaign on social media channels, in Countryside magazine and via its Back British Farming newsletter. Find out how to sign up to our newsletter.
NFU members can also get involved by using #GBBW26 on your social media posts showing why you’re proud to produce British beef. You can download pre-made graphics to share on AHDB’s website.
Future of beef
Last year, the NFU launched ‘Backing British Beef – Our vision for 2035’ – a report that outlines the NFU’s vision for the livestock sector over the next decade. Have a look back to see our vision.
Proud to produce
NFU Livestock Board Chair David Barton said he is delighted to support Great British Beef Week: “Livestock farmers across the country produce sustainable British beef to some of the highest welfare and environmental standards in the world.
"Great British Beef Week gives us the perfect opportunity to celebrate a fantastic nutritious meat and showcase the product to the public who can show their support by backing British farming.”
Ladies in Beef, which first began the campaign, is a voluntary organisation of female beef farmers founded by Devon beef producer Jilly Greed and former NFU President Minette Batters.
