Paul joined York East County Chair Andrew Sewell, Council Delegate Angela Kirkwood and County Adviser Poppy Smith on stand to greet guests, alongside group secretaries from the Driffield, Howden, Pocklington, Beverley and Holderness and Yorkshire Coast NFU branches.
Hull and East Yorkshire Mayor Luke Campbell visited the stand to chat with Paul, Andrew and Angela. They discussed members’ concerns on flooding, electricity and grid connectivity, planning, education and skills.
The stand had a new layout and was busy throughout the day, providing teas, coffee, Pimms, beer, wine and snacks to visitors who stopped by for a chat.
A fabulous day
Andrew said: “We had a fabulous day at the Driffield Show. We had a lot of members on stand, who came for a refreshments and to have a chat with us about their concerns.
“We also hosted Luke Campbell, the Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire, and put to him our concerns around topics including a lack of maintenance of main rivers, connectivity, the ongoing problems with planning for livestock buildings, and the cost of planning permission and delays – particularly as we’ve now had a 20% reduction in stocking density in poultry buildings.
“In effect we have 20% less buildings than we did but can’t get planning permission to put more up. Hopefully actions will come from that.
“Paul has been listening to what members’ concerns are. He briefed them on the issues that are coming out of government at the moment, especially now that we have a new secretary of state. Paul will be taking those concerns back down to Stoneleigh with him.”
