British cheese triumphs in Nantwich

Nantwich Cheese Awards 2014_29329

The awards, in Nantwich, Cheshire, were championed by the superb dairy farming region the South West, which not only produced the Champion UK and Reserve Champion UK but also saw the Industry Award go to cheese expert Nigel Pooley, who has worked for Wyke Farms for nearly 20 years.

Champion UK was won by farmer owned co-operative Arla, for its Taw Valley Double Gloucester. Originating in Gloucester possibly as early as the 16th century, Double Gloucester with its distinctive light orange hue is now produced in several parts of the UK. The award winning Double Gloucester comes from Taw Valley Creamery, part of the Arla group, which is situated just outside of North Tawton in Devon.

Reserve Champion UK went to Lubborn Creamery, based in Cricket St Thomas, Somerset, which produces ripened, soft cheeses.

By continuing to buy great British cheese as well as dairy products such as butter and yogurt you are helping to support British dairy farmers.
