The Tell It Like It Is toolkit aims to give farmers the information and resources they need to better promote dairy to consumers, primarily focusing on social media communications.

Launched by Dairy UK and AHDB Dairy, the website contains advice, guidelines, infographics, tweet suggestions and videos that dairy farmers can use when on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or other social media platforms.

An example of the online tweets for farmers to use include:

The dairy industry plays an important role in helping to feed the UK” #shoutaboutdairy

“Did you know there are over 700 different types of named cheeses in the UK? (And no, they’re not all called cheddar…)

UK dairy farmers play a key role in the prosperity and success of rural communities #shoutaboutdairy

Meanwhile, Dairy UK and AHDB Dairy have announced a shake-up of the spoof public service promotional campaign.

The Department of Dairy Related Wholesome Affairs has undergone a reshuffle and renamed the Department of Dairy Related Scrumptious Affairs. It follows new appointments such as Great British Bake Off winner, Edd Kimber, becoming Head of Butter, and blogger Irene Lara as Director of Hard Cheese.

The campaign will continue with billboard ads at train stations across the country and on the London Underground, as well as online communications, including those from social media influencers.

NFU dairy board chairman Michael Oakes said: “This is a really positive move by the dairy industry to get farmers involved with promoting our sector.

“The new toolkit will allow farmers to be sure of the facts and encourage those who are wavering on dairy consumption to choose dairy.”
