In the morning the group met with Simon Hoare MP, Chair of the Dairy APPG and PPS to the Farming Minister. In the afternoon the group also got to present their ideas to members of the Defra Dairy Team, with key topics including productivity, environmental sustainability and Defra preparation for Brexit.
Dairy UK Chief Executive Judith Bryans and Policy & Sustainability Director Peter Dawson also presented to the group about the work of Dairy UK and the Dairy Council.
The final meeting of the day was with Farming Minister George Eustice, with discussion centred around supporting and encouraging new entrants and younger dairy farmers. The Grocery Code Adjudicator, labour on dairy farms and risk management were also highlighted as key areas.
The Dairy Development Group has one event to go, which will focus on risk management and dairy futures markets. They have previously visited Muller, Ornua Foods, NML and recieved presentation skills and media training.
