NFU President Meurig Raymond was one of the farming leaders who met a team of senior staff this week.

Mr Raymond said: “This is an important step in developing a relationship with a growing retailer - one which is already very supportive of British farming given its commitment to Red Tractor, with all its British sourced produce carrying the mark.

“The retailer outlined how it was looking at doing more with its corporate social responsibility and to better communicate the good work it already does.

“Lidl also explained how it sources around £30 million of UK cheese, which it distributes to its own stores throughout Europe and said it is currently reviewing its lamb sourcing policies.

“We feel this was a productive meeting and we look forward to meeting with them again to see what changes they are looking to make.”
