EU parliament vote on organic regulations

Many of the original proposals would have acted as a disincentive for those planning to convert to organic farming and force some organic farmers to return to conventional farming. At a time when the demand for organic produce from EU consumers has continued to increase, this would have merely seen the EU make up the shortfall in production through imports. Therefore, throughout the drafting of these amendments, the NFU has worked hard to push for measures that will enable UK producers to make full use of the opportunity organic farming provides and foster greater investment in the sector.

The impact of this vote upon NFU members is explained here.
