Footwear
Farm footwear should be kept clean.
Visitors to the farm should either be provided with footwear or strong, disposable boot covers. If wearing their own boots, these should be cleaned and disinfected before moving around your farm.
Provide clean water and a brush to remove any residual dirt first, then provide a disinfectant foot bath of sufficient depth that the disinfectant solution can cover the whole of the foot area of the boot.
Foot baths should be changed frequently to retain their full effect and preserve the correct disinfectant dilution rate. The disinfectant will not work as intended if it gets dirty.
The manufacturers’ dilution rate should be adhered to and the disinfectant used should be appropriate for your individual farm type and animals.
Clothing
Farm outdoor wear should also be kept clean – do not forget to regularly clean mud or farm detritus from outdoor trousers and jackets.
Consider providing disposable overalls to farm visitors.
Dispose of any disposable clothing or boot covers responsibly.
