Former NFU President Minette Batters speaks at the event

Thousands of pounds have been raised for charity at a farewell dinner for former NFU President Minette Batters.

Nearly 500 guests attended the Big Bash at Sandy Park in Exeter where farmers gathered to thank Minette for all she did during the six years of her Presidency.

The black-tie event included a charity draw that raised more than £4,300 for the RABI, the Farming Community Network and the Addington Fund.

NFU Devon assistant county adviser Sophie Herd organised the event, complete with a three-course dinner and live music from local band Reckless.

A wonderful event

Sophie said: “Big Bash was a huge success and it was great to see hundreds of members enjoy a fun evening in celebration of our farming community.

“With Minette being a farmer in the South region, we felt it only right to pull together an event of good food and music to give her the send-off she deserves.

“It was a wonderful event that brought our members together and it was fantastic to have such great sponsorship for the night as well.”
