Staffordshire farmer and NFU member Richard Bower welcomes huge prehistoric visitor.

While it has been millions of years since dinosaurs roamed the Staffordshire landscape – this summer NFU member Richard Bower and family are welcoming people back to Prehistoric times on their farm.

Summer fun seekers headed to Lower Drayton Farm, at Penkridge, will be able to catch a glimpse of huge Jurassic and Cretaceous period beasts towering above its fields along the A449.

Eight animatronic life-size dinosaurs have arrived at the farm ready to wow visitors enjoying the PLAY@ farm attraction this summer, as part of the Bower family’s Dino Discovery Maize Maze adventure.

Join the dino hunt

Richard Bower, a Staffordshire NFU member and former county chair, said: “Last year, visitors to our Dino Discovery Maize Maze were tasked with tracking down a dinosaur egg that had been uncovered on the farm.

“This year, they will be on a mission to help our dino rangers find eight lost dinos around the massive maize maze.

“The question is, will they find the dinos – or get lost themselves – and avoid getting eaten by the T-Rex and Velociraptors!

“The maize crop is already towering at 6ft so we estimate it will be over 8ft hight by the time we open the maze on 26 July – so it’s going to be a really fun family challenge!”

Tricaratops

The farm’s social media followers were invited to come up with names for the dinos – which include Tiny the life-size T-Rex; Dippy the Diplodocus; Velociraptors Penkridge, Dunston, Gailey and Trussell; Ankylosaurus: Lizzie and Trike the baby Triceratops.

In addition to finding the lost dinos, the Dino Discovery Maize Maze experience will see youngsters hunt for fossils, get creative with dino-themed crafts and learn all about modern day ‘dinosaurs’ in a special reptile talk.

They will also find out more about British farming and food when they explore the farm’s huge indoor play barns and acres of outdoor space, with a chance to meet cattle, pigs, goats and other animals.

The full day out at PLAY@ Lower Drayton also includes a packed programme of animal talks, interactions and a fun and educational farm trailer ride - for further details go to: playatthefarm.co.uk.

The Dino Discovery Maize Maze experience is part of standard PLAY@ admission from Wednesday 26 July to Sunday 3 September.
