NFU Honley has welcomed a new Partner, Agent and Group Secretary.

Joel Long joined Robert Nobles and Matthew Gummerson at the Yorkshire West Riding NFU Mutual Agency in May.

Joel will be working with members across Kirklees and the surrounding areas, offering assistance with private client, commercial and agricultural insurances, as well as advice on financial planning, risk management and supporting with farming and horticultural matters.

Farming has always been part of Joel’s life. He grew up on an upland farm on the North Yorkshire Moors, with blue texels and a mixed herd of rare breed cattle. Later, Joel moved to the Yorkshire Wolds, where arable, pigs and poultry became his new surroundings.

Joel joined the NFU Mutual in 2018 and has worked across several roles, including claims, customer service and sales. Most recently, Joel specialised as a regional high-net-worth consultant, supporting clients in tailoring policies to meet their individual and often complex needs.

Joel said: “Taking on this role has been a long-term ambition. Since joining the organisation, I have aimed to one day lead an agency, delivering the kind of local, personal, and attentive service that is at the core of what we do. To be able to do that in an area like West Yorkshire, and alongside such a great team who are well embedded in the community, is a real privilege.”

Building on strong foundations

Looking ahead, Joel is excited to meet more members; whether at livestock and produce markets, local and county shows, or simply in day-to-day life, and continue building on the strong foundations already in place.

Joel added: “I am looking forward to getting out and about, and to being a part of the continued progression of the agency and our members.

“My focus is to extend and complement the great work of the partners before me, with community and trust at the forefront of how we serve our members. As our core industry evolves, so must we, but always in a way that stays true to our values and loyalty to the farming community.”
