Defra has received 938 applications from across the country to take part in the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) pilot, which is due to start in November 2021.

This is a good response from the 2,178 who initially expressed interest in joining the scheme, and the applications cover a range of sectors.

The RPA will now write to successful applicants to let them know that their draft agreements are live on the RPA portal. Applicants will then have 15 days to review them and either accept, make any changes, or reject the agreement.

The first agreements will start from 1 November 2021, with the first payments reaching farmers for February.
