Tomato Energy has entered administration. Find out what this means for farmers and how NFU Energy can help those affected.

Following recent developments in the energy market, Tomato Energy has announced it has ceased trading. Here’s how NFU Energy is supporting affected members.

What do customers need to know?

On 5 November 2025, Tomato Energy entered administration, which means they are no longer able to supply customers with energy or manage their contracts.

There is no need to worry, your energy is secure and will continue without disruption.

All energy customers are protected by Ofgem, the energy regulator through the SoLR (Supplier of Last Resort) process. This process ensures the supply continues with an alternative supplier, usually a well-known household name.

On 10 November 2025, British Gas was appointed as the SoLR taking over from Tomato Energy. They should contact customers within the next 3-5 working days to explain the next steps.

It’s important not to cancel or stop any payments, unless you believe they’re incorrect, as this could delay the switch.

However, British Gas will not match the same terms and rates as you had with Tomato Energy. That’s where NFU Energy can help, ensuring members remain on the most competitive rates and receive the right support with any switch. They have a number of specially agreed deals with our network of suppliers to assist with the switch for you.
