BREF Implementation

Frogmary Farm, Somerset_15253

The BREF was finally signed off by the European Commission Article 75 Forum on 3 October 2016.

The industries' next challenge will be the implementation of the new BREF. Once the BREF is published in the European Commission’s Official Journal (around Spring 2017) it is then the responsibility for all Member States to translate the BREF accordingly.

In our case this will be carried out by the Environment Agency (EA) in England and all permitted farms will have 4 years to comply with the changes. The EA is looking to start the review of all permits within 6 to 12 months of BREF publication (Autumn 2017 – Spring 2018).

Read our members' briefing here for updates on the following:

  • BREF Implementation
  • Key BAT Outcomes
  • New Associated Emission Levels (AELs) - Ammonia Emission Factors
  • Next Steps
