Renewable generators urged to check loss of mains settings

G59relay_77033

This has been introduced as a result of Distribution Code updates (Engineering Recommendation G59 has been upgraded). Loss of Mains (LoM) protection settings need to be changed to remain compliant – in many cases, this is just a matter of adjusting settings on existing equipment.

The new settings will allow generators to “ride through” or continue operating without disconnecting when minor faults occur on the system, allowing for a continuous supply.

If new relay equipment and setting changes are needed for equipment installed before February 2018, grant funding is available through a quarterly application process under the Accelerated Loss of Mains Change Programme administered by the Energy Networks Association. We understand that most sites successful in obtaining funding will have the costs covered in full.

The current deadline for final applications is 10 May 2022, but it is worth bearing in mind that the final application deadline could be brought forward at any time.
