Featuring a Back British Farming Day archway, flowers and cow and calf models, the stand proved a popular stop for visitors throughout the two-day show.
Staff from NFU Kendal welcomed show-goers to the stand, offering refreshments and biscuits throughout the event.
NFU North's Cumbria County Adviser Catherine Stokes, County Chair Richard Pedley, Regional Policy Manager Adam Briggs and Regional Director David Hall were on hand to greet members and visitors who stopped by for a chat.
On Back British Farming Day, the Tenant Farming Commissioner Alan Laidlaw visited the stand to meet the team and they discussed tenant farmer confidence.
Richard Pedley and Adam Briggs were interviewed by several local media outlets, including BBC North West Tonight.
Richard was also among the speakers at a Show Society panel discussion on the future of farming in Cumbria, hosted in the new Westmorland Hub tent. Chaired by Adam Day from the Farmer Network, the panel also featured NFU members Linsey Awde, Richard Geldard and Will Case.
The Hub also hosted a Q&A with the EFRA Committee on Thursday, where NFU North Regional Director David Hall asked Chair Alistair Carmichael about devolution.
Meanwhile, on the stand, Catherine met with Cumbria mayoral candidates Mike Starkie and David Allen during the show.
A brilliant show
NFU Cumbria County Adviser Catherine Stokes said: “We had an absolutely fantastic couple of days at the Westmorland County Show. It was great to see so many members in the tent and have a chat about the issues they are facing on farm.
“I also met with two of the Cumbria mayoral candidates and Tim Farron MP over the two days, as well as representatives from a number of farming organisations. It was great to see so many people coming together to celebrate Cumbrian farming.”
NFU Kendal Group Secretary Sarah Kitching said: “We were chuffed to bits to win the Large Agricultural Trade Stand First Place Award, especially on Back British Farming Day. A big thank you to Neil Young for bringing down his cow, calf and sunflowers and Karen Brewer for putting together the most beautiful floral arrangements displayed in milk kits, we’ve had lots of compliments.
“We’ve had members not just from this area in Cumbria but from many other counties visit, so it’s great to share hospitality with them. It’s been a brilliant show, roll on next year.”
