York East County Adviser Poppy Smith, Driffield Group Secretary Michael Hadfield and Katy Mackintosh who is based in the Howden NFU office, played an NFU Education video on farm animal life cycles and then spoke to the children about a year on the farm, tying in seasonal food, the importance of buying local food and climate adaptation.
Every child received an NFU Education booklet and an NFU pencil.
York East County Adviser Poppy Smith said: “It’s fantastic to engage with a range of schools, be that from Hull or the more rural areas of the East Riding.
“What’s also very important is engaging with the school teachers and promoting the work of the NFU Education team and the other services that we offer. It’s not just about learning on the day, but it’s about continuing that learning about food and farming in the classroom too.”
