NFU the only farming representative at landmark wildfire summit

The NFU was British farming’s lead advocate at the first wildfire summit, ensuring the voice of farmers was raised in a room full of government decision-makers.

The NFU were the “only farmer representation” in a room full of government ministers and agencies, NGOs and land owners alongside Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Angela Rayner.

NFU Livestock Board Chair Clare Wise takes members behind the scenes of the inaugural meeting, where the Prime Minister acknowledged the emotional and economic toll that wildfires have on the farming community and stated that the “current status quo” would not be allowed to carry on.

Clare ensured our asks on wildfire were heard, with a focus on government-backed active land management, speaking for farmers and the fact that they must be trusted to “know [their] landscapes and know what’s best for those landscapes going forward”.
