The NFU used the first day of Cereals to highlights the importance of farm safety, with a popular quiz drawing in dozens of members at the event.

Participants were shown a photograph of a farmyard and asked to identify as many safety hazards as possible. The timed event also gave members the chance to win a hi-vis jacket.

The activity forms part of the NFU’s Take 5 to Stay Alive campaign and comes at a critical time for farm safety, following a Health and Safety Executive report that seven people have died in farming accidents in just seven weeks.

Making farm safety engaging

NFU Farm Safety Adviser Stuart Head was manning the NFU stand on the day, with the team describing the quiz as a great way to engage members on such an important issue.

Despite sunshine and showers, footfall at the stand was strong, with the team underlining that farm safety has never been more important.
