Represent your sector and help shape NFU policy. The deadline for applications is Sunday 1 March 2026 – find more details on how to apply on this page.

Do you want to help shape future policy and ensure that it is fit for purpose to allow poultry farmers to be profitable, resilient, and progressive?

If yes, then the NFU is looking for passionate members involved in the poultry sector to become part of the NFU National Poultry Board, and you can apply now for this rewarding and worthwhile role.

Proactively represent your sector

Nominations can now be submitted by NFU members wishing to be appointed to the National Poultry Board from March 2026 to March 2028.

The National Poultry Board’s remit is to formulate policy on behalf of the poultry sector and proactively represent the interests of NFU poultry members, covering both the poultry meat and egg sectors.

The deadline for applications is Sunday 1 March 2026.

A wide remit of issues

The work of the National Poultry Board covers a wide remit of issues affecting the poultry sector from avian influenza to nutrient neutrality and there’s no time like the present to play your part in setting the vision for the future.

If you have a passion for the poultry sector and want to make a difference by helping to shape the future for the industry, this could be the role for you.

Enthusiasm and communication

We are looking for 12 enthusiastic and driven individuals to contribute to the work of the national board who really want to make a difference for their sector.

As a board member you will help to shape the board’s priorities and will be given responsibilities for certain work areas which you will be expected to lead on.

Successful applicants will be able to communicate to other NFU poultry members, especially in their respective region and will help feed information from regional meetings to national board meetings and vice versa.

Board meetings

The national board meets six times a year and members receive an annual honorarium which is paid monthly to help mitigate the costs incurred by spending time away from the farm business.

Board members are elected for a two-year period (March 2026 to March 2028).

Board meetings will either take place predominantly in person attendance is expected at all twelve meetings across the two-year term.

The nomination process

NFU members who would like to be considered for a place on the national poultry board are required to seek support from eight other NFU members and submit a nomination form which includes 250 words on why you’d like to apply for the position.

Members can log in and download the nomination form here.

Completed forms should be returned to NFU Chief Poultry Adviser Aimee Mahony by 1 March 2026, via email: [email protected].

The selection process

Members of the National Poultry Board are selected via a competitive process which will consider the skillset of nominees and both regional and sector representation on the board.

Nominations will go to a selection panel and short interviews may be conducted if required.

Once confirmed, the new board will then meet for the first time on Wednesday 25 March 2026, where the new Chair and Vice-chair will be elected.

Inclusivity

In line with the NFU’s value of inclusivity, we have always embraced applicants from different cultures, backgrounds and perspectives.

We especially welcome applications from people who feel their community has, so far, been underrepresented in the agriculture industry, be that in relation to (but not limited to) their race, colour, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression.

Further discussion

If you would like to discuss this further or require any additional information about the role of a national board member, please contact your regional NFU office or the Chief Poultry Adviser, Aimee Mahony via [email protected].
