STAG is a not-for-profit network for Staffordshire agricultural and horticultural businesses that rely on abstracted water.
Water Abstraction Groups (WAGs) are forming across the Midlands to provide a stronger, coordinated voice for agricultural abstractors and to support practical action on water resilience. STAG responds to rising pressure on water availability, more frequent droughts and changes to abstraction licensing. We cannot take water for granted and your abstraction may be at risk in the future, so we need to plan now for a changing climate.
STAG will:
- Strengthen the resilience of Staffordshire’s water-dependent businesses and supply chains.
- Share practical guidance on efficient use, storage, reuse and drought planning.
- Keep members informed on licensing changes, catchment pressures and compliance expectations.
- Identify joint projects (e.g., on-farm storage where appropriate, irrigation optimisation, soil/infiltration measures, nature-based solutions, leakage reduction and monitoring).
- Engage with regulators, water companies and catchment partners to shape workable solutions.
STAG will be a member-controlled, not-for-profit organisation, providing a trusted forum for discussion, coordination and representation. Its focus is to improve water resilience for Staffordshire’s agricultural and horticultural businesses, from field-scale cropping and soft fruit to dairy.
If your business abstracts water, please register your interest to join STAG and help shape our 2026 priorities.
Thank you for helping to build a more resilient and sustainable water future for Staffordshire.
