New digital application form for registering temporary land

12 November 2025

Sheep grazing on farmland

The NFU has welcomed a new online form making it easier for livestock keepers to make Temporary Land Applications.

A new online form for registering temporary land is available to use on GOV.UK.

Available from 12 November, the new form will allow APHA to process applications more quickly by:

  • Streamlining the process and improving the customer journey
  • Capturing all the mandatory information
  • Direct submission to APHA, removing the need to save and email the form.

To use the form, visit: GOV.UK | Register temporary use of land or buildings to keep livestock

The NFU is part of the Livestock Information Transformation Programme and has consistently called for quicker and more convenient recording of animal movements. Therefore the move to a digital process is a welcome one that will aid keepers in registering temporary grazing or buildings correctly.

Previously, livestock keepers applying to use temporary land have been required to complete a PDF form electronically or download it to complete by hand to either post or email.
