With growers facing unprecedented challenges over the last few years from Brexit, Covid, the Ukraine conflict and the subsequent inflationary pressures, the NFU Horticulture and Potatoes Board has a vital role in representing the interests of NFU members.
Looking ahead, the focus will be on accessing labour, energy price support, supply chain fairness, import controls, peat growing media, the development of ELMs and much more.

What roles are available?
The NFU Horticulture & Potatoes Board consists of 12 appointed members, including an elected chairman and vice chairman, plus up to 4 additional co-options.
The board has a rolling process of annual appointments, and this year 7 positions are up for appointment (including 6 board members and 1 co-opted appointment).
Both board members and co-opted members can serve a two-year term of office and members can then stand for re-appointment.

Nominations may only be received from full NFU Farmer and Grower members or those employed to represent a business that is a full NFU Farmer and Grower member. Members interested in applying must submit:
- A covering letter, setting out the reasons for applying to the board.
- A description of relevant sector experience and skills; either included within the covering letter or as a separate CV.
- A completed nomination form, with the signatures and corresponding membership numbers from at least 10 other NFU Farmer & Grower members – it is important that these be horticulture or potato grower members.
Nominations that do not include all three may be discounted.
The deadline for applications is Friday 12 February 2023.
Please note the first board meeting that members will be expected to attend is Tuesday 21 March 2023, held in person at NFU HQ, Warwickshire.
