What you need to know about red diesel

08 June 2021

On this page, the NFU's science and regulatory affairs assistant adviser Alison Taylor provides advice on how to keep red diesel in good condition and how to report any issues with fuel quality, including issues presented by Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME).

Under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO), the UK is committed to meet volume targets for renewable fuels in the UK supply chain. The most common biofuels are ethanol, which is added to petrol, and FAME, which is added to diesel and gas oil.
