Prime Minister Boris Johnson has recorded an exclusive address for the NFU's 2021 virtual annual conference. You can watch it below now.
In this video message, the prime minister offers a "heartfelt thank you” to NFU members for their efforts in keeping the nation fed during an extremely challenging 12 months, and he looks ahead to the opportunities presented by a new domestic agricultural policy.
Boris Johnson stresses his desire for “wanting people to buy more of our unparalleled British food” at home and abroad, and lists Welsh lamb, Aberdeen Angus beef, Cornish clotted cream and British jam as examples of our finest produce.
He assures members that "in all our trade negotiations, we won’t compromise on high environmental protection, animal welfare and food standards", and signs off the message by looking forward to #COP26 where we can “harness all that farming can do to protect nature and tackle climate change”.
