The event began with an optional tour of the Massey mill, followed by a buffet and networking opportunity for producers. Attendees then heard from a range of industry speakers covering key issues that are affecting the seasonal turkey sector.
NFU Senior Poultry Adviser Samuel Williamson provided an update on turkey costings, market conditions and the NFU’s ongoing policy work, including the #BuyMyTurkey campaign.
Host Stuart Hinchly, Massey Feeds monogastric sales manager, shared insights into feed markets, weather impacts and future forecasts, while Toby Kelly of Kelly Turkeys spoke about his approach to turkey production, the 500th-year turkey celebrations and the challenges posed by animal activism, offering practical advice on protecting businesses from potential incursions.
The meeting closed with a discussion session, giving producers the opportunity to share experiences and discuss the issues that are facing the sector ahead of the Christmas production period.
Another successful event
The NFU would like to thank all the speakers for their contributions and Massey Feeds for kindly hosting another successful and informative event.
Stuart Hinchly, Massey Feeds monogastric sales manager, said: “Again, it was another successful Massey and NFU seasonal turkey evening this year.
“I am proud that Masseys and the NFU can organise an event where seasonal turkey producers can get together and share knowledge and information in a relaxed atmosphere.”
