Horticulture and potato growers urged to respond to AHDB strategy

With a ballot on AHDB horticulture due in January, it is a critical time for growers to understand the direction of travel of the levy body so they are informed ahead of the vote.

Responding to grower and NFU calls, a key part of the strategy is the fundamental review of the levy system for Horticulture and Potatoes, which could see a number of important changes, such as different rates for different sectors, depending on their needs, and the removal of levy from added value operations.

The full strategy document covers all sectors covered by the levy, including Horticulture (page 30) and Potatoes (page 35). (Also available here (Horticulture), and here (Potatoes))

Further details on the levy review and potential changes for the future are covered in detail here:

The NFU is encouraging growers to give their views by responding directly to the strategy, and there are several ways to do this:

NFU members are also encouraged to share their thoughts with the NFU horticulture team at aG9ydGljdWx0dXJlQG5mdS5vcmcudWs= to inform the NFU’s own response to the consultation.

Finally, AHDB is also running a series of sector-focused town hall meetings which will be an opportunity to give feedback directly and ask questions on the strategy. Further details for the Horticulture sector sessions are available here, and details for the Potato sector will follow.
