Shed Talks has been created with NFU members in mind, offering honest, practical conversations about British food and farming. It will sit alongside our existing Shed Talks LIVE events, with both platforms providing new ways to explore the key issues affecting our industry and to hear directly from farmers, growers and NFU experts.

The podcast has been developed to offer more flexible, accessible ways for farmers and growers to stay informed, hear from others in the industry, and be part of the big conversations shaping British agriculture.

“It’s a brilliant platform to share real stories, connect with the farming community and spark honest conversations.”

NFU Shed Talks presenter Bizza Walters

NFU President Tom Bradshaw said the podcast was a “fresh way to connect and share real farming stories to demonstrate the opportunities and tackle the big challenges that matter most to our sector”.

“I’m excited to show how we are making a difference direct to members, and your feedback is vital to shape this podcast into something you find truly valuable.”

What to expect from Shed Talks

Each 30-40 minute episode will take listeners behind the scenes of farming and growing in Britain. Episodes will feature conversations with NFU experts, farmers, growers and industry voices, exploring the issues shaping the future of agriculture and the work the NFU is doing on behalf of its members.

Whether it is national lobbying wins, regional priorities or the everyday realities of life on farm, Shed Talks is about real people and real stories – with a farmer first approach at its heart.

Episodes will follow a consistent structure, including:

  • A welcome and news update from the presenters.
  • One or two in-depth features on timely topics.
  • A lighter ‘and finally’ story to round off the episode.

How to listen

A new episode of Shed Talks will be released every two weeks on a Tuesday.

Meet the speakers

Presenters will rotate throughout the series, offering a mix of NFU staff and members. The line up includes:

Bizza Walters

NFU Student & Young Farmer Alumni

Bizza is a freelance presenter and social media consultant.

She farms pedigree Greyface Dartmoor sheep alongside a small flock of commercial Romneys, sharing her love for British farming and rural life on social media.

Luke Cox

NFU combinable crops senior policy adviser

Luke Cox is the senior combinable crops policy adviser at the NFU, working for farmers and growers in the combinable crops sector to represent them on all relevant issues.

Mike Greenwood-Wilkins

NFU Combinable Crops Board appointee, South

Mike is a fourth generation farmer based in North Wiltshire, where he lives with his husband, Matt, and their whippet, Todd. At home, he works alongside his Mum, Dad and sister, where they farm around 2,000 acres, primarily arable, a mix of in-house and contract farmed.

They also run a range of native rare breed livestock: British White cattle, Oxford Sandy & Black pigs and Wiltshire Horn sheep, plus non-native Boer goats.

Mike is also manager of CP Farming ltd, a 4,000 acre mixed estate in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

Previously, he studied Agriculture & Business Management at The Royal Agricultural University and also spent an additional year there as chair of the Students' Union.

His main passion in agriculture is a transition to more environmentally conscious farming, whilst maintaining food production.

Having taken great inspiration from the regenerative movement, he is reducing tillage, increasing cover cropping and incorporating livestock and herbal leys.

He is looking to understand impacts on soil carbon from varying cropping and establishment techniques to optimise rotations to maximise and retain soil carbon. He is also increasing low input cropping, growing miscanthus and exploring agroforestry.

He strongly supports the NFU’s net zero target, but to achieve this he believes that in the need to focus on neutralising farming's internal emission and in-setting within our supply chains before selling our good work out of the industry.

Naomi Williams-Roberts

NFU Student & Young Farmer Alumni | NFU Cymru

Born with a passion for animals, it was no surprise that Naomi gravitated towards farming.

Hailing from South East Wales, a self-proclaimed late comer, it wasn’t obvious she was ‘allowed’ to join the industry, however after joining YFC her feet are firmly under the table. Establishing her farm in 2018 with her husband, Josh, Naomi hopes to help others realise their farming dreams can come true!

Josh Redford

East Sussex and West Sussex County Adviser and Surrey County Adviser

Josh works on behalf of NFU members in East and West Sussex, and in Surrey. Previously he was NFU County Adviser for Hertfordshire.

He is originally from Sussex and caught the farming bug as a teenager, when he helped on a local dairy farm.

After undertaking an Agriculture BSc at Cirencester he worked on an arable farm in Cambridgeshire, and with Farmcare as a trainee agronomist before he joined Greens of Soham.

Away from work, he is a qualified water sports instructor and an infantry reservist.

Jacks Weaver

Regional Policy Manager (South)

Jacks joined the NFU South team in May 2024 as the regional policy manager.

She helps drive the NFU’s policy work forward on behalf of members’ businesses, leading campaigning, policy, lobbying and external engagement strategy in the region, as well as supporting and advising members and colleagues on key policy matters.

Jacks previously worked in rural surveying and farm business management.

She lives on a family farm in South Gloucestershire, and has a passion for agriculture, and rural businesses.

What's in episode one?

In episode one, presenters Bizza Walters and Luke Cox catch up on all the latest farming news before moving into the main feature about our recent event Shed Talks LIVE.

This feature focuses on resilience on farm and mental wellbeing with young farmers Hannah Jackson (The Red Shepherdess) and Oliver Collingham. Hannah farms sheep and cattle in the Yorkshire Dales, while Oliver works on a mixed arable and livestock farm in Lincolnshire. Both share their personal experiences managing the demands of farming life and the importance of mental health support in rural communities.

Every episode also includes a Westminster segment, where the NFU’s external affairs team members provide insight into political developments. In this first episode, the segment is presented by Head of External Affairs Olivia Phoenix and External Affairs Adviser Ruairi Hodges, who discuss the new Defra top team and explain why it is vital for the NFU to maintain a presence at party political conferences every year

The final feature takes listeners to California, where cattle rancher Mary Rickert tells a powerful story about her farm and local community. They have been left homeless and helpless by a pack of wild wolves that are killing their livestock and leaving families feeling frightened. Hear how ACDC music has helped!

Keep an eye out for new episodes every fortnight, featuring more voices from across British farming and the latest topics shaping our industry

On the launch of the first episode, Bizza said: “I’m thrilled to join the NFU Shed Talks podcast as one of the presenting team! It’s a brilliant platform to share real stories, connect with the farming community and spark honest conversations.

“Being part of this podcast means celebrating resilience, learning from each other and championing voices that truly matter. I’m very proud and excited to be involved!”
