Tom Bradshaw video update from NFU Council – President’s vlog

23 June 2026

NFU President Tom Bradshaw reports back from the latest NFU Council, where delays to the UK-EU’s highly-anticipated SPS (Sanitary and Phytosanitary) agreement was top of the agenda.

Speaking after a meeting of NFU Council on 23 June, NFU President Tom Bradshaw said that reported delays to a scheduled summit to discuss the prospective EU realignment between the UK and EU was disappointing. He outlined the NFU’s work in lobbying the government on this front.

Looking closer to home, Tom vocalised his concern at the current ‘political turmoil’, following Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s resignation as leader of the Labour party earlier this week.

He added that the NFU would continue to work with Defra to deliver an agenda that will help support future growth within the farming industry.

With the weather heating up and reports of health and safety incidents rising in recent weeks, Tom urged members to “stay safe and look after yourselves”.
